Creative (And a Little Chaotic) Wedding Party Photo Ideas

Taking photos with your besties is one of the hidden gems of your wedding day.

Bride in white laughs as she is lifted by two groomsmen in mint suits; three bridesmaids in mint and holding flowers smile in a forest.

Not all of your wedding party photos have to be posed and perfect. While we love a beautiful, classic look, we also love a fun, candid, joyous moment!

The photo above was a daredevil move, but it came out as one of my favorite wedding party photos of all time. The lift was a great way to get everybody's energy up and flowing while also getting some genuine belly laughs, making for the perfect candid smiles.

Here are some tips and ideas for creative wedding party photos:

  1. Warm up by getting silly

Group of six people in pastel green outfits, smiling and kissing the groom in dark green suit in a forest setting, conveying joy and celebration.

The best way to get comfortable in front of the camera is to be your silly old self. Once you do that, it's like the lens isn't even there.

  1. Create candid moments

A groom and his groomsmen in white shirts, khaki pants, and bow ties walk in a forest. They appear joyful.

Walking or rocking back and forth is a great way to get moving naturally. Interact with each other, make each other laugh, maybe even throw a light shove in there if you're looking for a little chaos.

  1. Feature the flower girl/ring bearer!

Get those cute kids involved! It's easy to throw them in for photos at the last minute, but featuring them when they're at ease and comfortable with the rest of the wedding party makes for some darn cute photos.

  1. It's okay to laugh during serious poses

The wedding party and the groom in formal attire, smiling and laughing, stand outdoors among trees. One person playfully covers a laugh. Bright daylight.

I told the groom to mean mug the camera and for everyone else to do the same to the groom. They couldn't. And that's okay because the result was this hilarious moment.

Here's a similar pose from a different wedding in which the groomsmen did, in fact, successfully glare at their surroundings.

Groom and groomsmen in white shirts, maroon bow ties, and suspenders stand in a forest. Sunlight filters through trees, creating a serene setting.

  1. Add a little chaos

Wedding party in pale green outfits lift the groom in a dark green suit, joyfully celebrating in a forest setting with large trees.

What's a wedding without a little chaos? My favorite wedding party photos happened during moments of pure chaos, like this lift and the lift featured at the top of this post. Sometimes, chaos is a blessing in disguise.

In sum, have fun with your wedding party photos! Do the cute poses, participate in the trends, but also revel in those silly and fun moments that you'll look back on with fondness in years to come.
